4 Priority Outcome Areas
At Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia, everything we do supports four Priority Outcome Areas—Academic Success, Health & Well-Being, Character & Leadership, and Life & Workforce Readiness. Together, these focus areas help young people build confidence, make healthy choices, develop strong values, and prepare for bright futures.
Academic Success
The Club’s academic programs promote school achievement, particularly in the areas of science, math, and reading. High-yield learning activities in STEM and arts, summer literacy, and after-school tutoring help Club kids develop confidence in their academic abilities. Programs like podcasting, journalism, and broadcasting provide fun and creative opportunities for members to strengthen skills that carry over to the classroom.
Health & Well-Being
Through physical education and sports leagues, squash, hiking, healthy cooking classes, mental health support, anti-vaping and tobacco cessation programs, learning about personal hygiene, and other health-based programs, our members develop lifelong healthy habits and positive decision-making skills.
Character & Leadership
Our goal is for Club members to grow into productive, responsible, and caring adults. The Club promotes this through service projects and clubs, leadership development programs, government advocacy, civic engagement, and healthy relationship building with peers and adults. Each of our Club sites charters a teen service and leadership club.
Life & Workforce Readiness
Preparing kids for the future begins when a child enters the Club at age five and continues through postsecondary graduation. Our members in elementary school participate in programs that teach them basic life skills, and our middle and high school teens focus on career exploration, work-based learning, resume building, public speaking, and financial literacy. Special programs such as Teen Saturdays increase access to opportunities like college visits and fun activities that build teamwork and community.
